Y’know, That Sunderfolk Update Thing… Just Happened
Right, so here’s the deal—Sunderfolk just got its second update. Can you believe it? They barely released the game in April, and they’re already tweaking and fixing stuff. Not that I’m complaining. Anyway, let me try and make sense of this whole thing.
So the game’s creators, Secret Door—what a name, right?—put out this update that’s supposed to fix some of those super irritating bugs. ‘Cause apparently, making a game that doesn’t crash is hard? Whatever, at least they’re trying. They say this update makes the onboarding less of a headache. You know, a smoother ride or whatever.
I mean, isn’t it kinda wild though? Secret Door’s all over the place these days. They’re checking out over 50 different problems players have thrown their way since Sunderfolk became a thing. Hopefully, they don’t lose it trying to fix all that. I’d need a nap for sure.
Anyway, so what’s the game about? In case you somehow missed it, Sunderfolk’s like this tactical RPG, think D&D but with fancy gadgets. You use your smartphone like a controller! Who even thought of that? Guess it’s neat, right? Oh, and they dropped it on every platform you can think of—PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, even our good old PCs. They didn’t leave any stone unturned.
Back to the updates—oops, almost forgot. First, they had this patch 1.2 which killed off a bunch of bugs, balanced some skills, and made sure card descriptions weren’t lying through their teeth. Neat, I guess. But we’re talking about the newer 1.2.1 patch here, which came out a couple of weeks later, supposedly fixing a load of technical junk. I wish they’d patch my life like that.
Now, let me ramble about these fixes. There’s this QR code thing on the main menu. It wasn’t showing up for some, which made the app stuff a pain, but now it’s sorted. And if you were having drama with leveling rewards not doing their job—well, that’s sorted too. Isn’t it funny how these things just ‘work’ now, like magic?
Oh! If you’re on a Steam Deck—’cause who isn’t these days—there were freezing issues and resolution setting tantrums. But fear not, they’re supposed to be gone now. Cross your fingers. And also, this random authentication issue some folks had with Dreamhaven servers? Yep, fixed. If you couldn’t verify your game license, hopefully, it’s a problem of the past.
Aside from all that, Secret Door’s on a crusade, hunting down other gremlins like Switch crashes and missing art. I bet their bug list looks longer than my grocery list around payday. And there’s some OAuth2 issue—whatever that means—and, you know what, they’ll probably get to the bottom of it eventually.
So, maybe by the next update, we’ll have a game that resembles what they first intended. Or maybe, just maybe, we’ll all move onto something else entirely. Who knows with these games, man.
That’s it, I guess? Until the next patch, or maybe something else entirely. Who can say?
