Let’s chat about this PlayStation Plus thing. So, if you’re hoping for those big Sony games to hit PlayStation Plus on day one, maybe don’t hold your breath. Apparently, a bigwig at Sony recently squashed any hopes of that happening soon. I mean, there are around 47 million people using the service right now. That’s a huge crowd! But you gotta wonder, aren’t some folks eyeing Xbox Game Pass with a bit of jealousy? Just saying.
PlayStation Plus kicked off in 2010, offering, uh, monthly games and all that. Multiplayer access too. And hey, they give you discounts on games. Mark your calendar for June 29, 2025. It’s their big 15th anniversary. Expect more games, maybe some sweet deals on their movies, and a quick chance for non-subscribers to dive into multiplayer for free. That one’s curious, right?
Now, while PS Plus is thriving among PS4 and PS5 fans, it’s not really famous for dropping new blockbusters immediately. Instead, you find indie titles and older classics. And it seems Sony plans to stick with this. Nick Maguire, some big shot at Sony, even mentioned they’re not keen on changing this game plan anytime soon.
Okay, let’s talk Xbox. That Game Pass is a different beast. Xbox is all about throwing those first-party games at subscribers right from the get-go. They’ve got a massive lineup, like the new Tony Hawk’s Pro-Skater 3+4 and Grounded 2 hitting in July. Plus, stuff like The Outer Worlds 2 and Ninja Gaiden 4 in October. And don’t forget the fresh Fable coming in 2026. Kind of makes your head spin, right?
PS Plus breaks down into three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Everyone sort of picks their poison, depending on what they’re after. And it seems like Sony’s doing something right. They saw an 18% bump in the Premium tier last year. Seems like players are digging the monthly games more and more. Or at least, that’s what Maguire says.
So yeah, PlayStation’s approach is a bit different, but they seem cool with it. Anyway, what do you think? Is PS Plus doing enough? Or is Game Pass just miles ahead with its new approach? I catch myself jumping between thoughts here, but you get where I’m going, right?
