Today, Nintendo revealed that pre-orders for the Switch 2 will commence in the United States on April 24. The pricing remains consistent with the base model starting at $449.99, while a bundle that includes Mario Kart World will be available for $499.99.
Initially, pre-orders in the U.S. faced a postponement due to Nintendo’s decision to “assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.”
However, some accessories for the Switch 2 are seeing a price hike. For instance, the Joy-Con 2 controllers, originally listed at $89.99, will now cost $94.99. Similarly, the Pro Controller price has increased from $79.99 to $84.99. Other accessories like the Switch 2 camera, dock set, wheel set, and charging grips are also experiencing price shifts.
“Nintendo states that further price adjustments could occur based on market conditions,” according to their recent announcement.
Despite these delays, the console’s release remains on track for June 5.
Originally slated for April 9, the pre-orders were pushed back due to the system’s unveiling coinciding with President Donald Trump’s announcement of comprehensive tariffs. On that particular day, Trump announced a 90-day pause on numerous tariffs, excluding those on Chinese goods.
Fortunately, the game prices for Nintendo titles such as Mario Kart World and the upcoming Donkey Kong Banaza (set for release on July 17) remain unchanged at $79.99 and $69.99, respectively.
Switch 2 brings significant upgrades over its predecessor. It boasts a larger display with HDR support, an additional USB Type-C port, and a more powerful Nvidia graphics chip.
At $449.99, the new price is considerably higher than the original Nintendo Switch, which debuted at $299.99. This has prompted many fans to urge Nintendo to “lower the price” during their streams.
Nintendo also expressed regret for the pre-order delay, hoping this change “eases some uncertainties our customers may experience.”
