Alright, so Nintendo’s finally done it—bringing out the Switch 2 after like, what, eight years since the first one? Wild. Everyone’s wondering if it’ll make us forget the original Switch that’s been selling out like candy.
So, here’s the lowdown. Two versions of this thing at launch. One’s at $449.99, and if you fancy Mario Kart World (who doesn’t?), there’s a $499.99 deal that includes it. I’m all for the latter cuz, honestly, who actually buys Mario Kart separately?
Now, onto why this thing is a step up—big time. Forget the fancy OLED screen we loved; this new screen is massive. Just makes the games pop, you know? Like, you’ll just get it when you see it. Smack it into the dock, and boom, it’s on your TV. Almost like it’s reading your mind. But heads up, the dock’s a bit larger, maybe your HDMI cable might throw a fit. Minor hot flashes after marathon gaming? Yeah, felt that. But hey, still runs fine!
Setting up was, no joke, super chill. Migrated stuff from Switch 1 like it was nothing. Quick update, and you’re good to go. Major props for a smooth process there, Nintendo.
Game-wise, meh, hardware’s great, no complaints, but where are the games, man? Whole lotta recycled stuff from other platforms. Exclusive-wise, pretty scarce at launch. Super bummed. Mario Kart World though? Absolutely nails it, but, uh, not really knocking my socks off with a bangin’ new lineup yet.
Backward compatibility? It’s a thing, thank goodness. Testing some of my old games with the new updates was a pleasant surprise, especially Pokemon Scarlet. What a glow-up! It’s like it found its groove finally after stumbling on Switch 1.
Controllers and stuff — tried out the Switch 2 Camera and Pro Controller. This camera’s kinda meh unless you’re into GameChat. But that Pro Controller? Top tier. Pricey, yep, but feels sooo good. Joy-Cons got an upgrade too, thicker and way more solid.
New Switch Online perks could be a nostalgia trip. GameCube classics made their way on board, and it’s looking promising for us old-school folks. Surprisingly, no emulation horrors this time.
So, should you rush out and buy it now? Eh, only if you’re a diehard Nintendo lover or need Mario Kart World in your life like yesterday. Otherwise, chill with the Switch 1 for now. Wait for more exclusive titles to roll out; it’s gonna be worth it down the line, trust me.
