So, Matt Ryan, the dude who played Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, had a little fan interaction that kind of spiraled. You know how these conventions go, right? Anyway, this all went down when he was chatting with someone at a signing. And apparently, he let something slip. Like, maybe a hint that made everyone think there might be a remake or remaster coming? Hard to tell. But then things got messy. Ubisoft wasn’t thrilled. At all.
Picture this: some TikTok person, goes by kylo_hd659, catches this moment on video at Comic Con Manchester. So, Ryan’s all friendly, talking away, and — oh surprise! — he’s being recorded. Later, he finds out and he’s just like, “Oops!” Seems Ubisoft wasn’t happy and started making legal noise. Like, who knew your words could turn into a potential lawsuit? Wild, right?
Ryan goes, “When that happened, someone was doing this…” waving around, maybe pointing at a phone. “I was just being all ‘blah blah,’ real open, and I didn’t know it was being recorded.” And now Ubisoft is breathing down his neck. What a scene! Gets you wondering how often stuff like this happens.
In the video, you can see Ryan pointing at the person’s camera while chatting. Clearly, this time he’s got his eyes open. Pretty smart if you ask me, like an indirect “please stop recording.” I mean, what else can you do? We asked Ubisoft for their side of the story, hoping they drop us a line back. Who knows?
As for Ryan, post-Black Flag, he’s off in DC land, wearing the John Constantine hat. Shows, animations, movies — the whole shebang. He’s been deep in it. James Gunn — if you ever see this — let’s get Ryan back in the DC movies or something? Just a personal request. I’d appreciate it more than my morning coffee. Seriously.
