So, picture this: I’m sitting there at PAX East, and the room’s just buzzing—like, seriously electric. Everyone’s losing their minds over this whole Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy mashup. It’s like…did they just pull off the crossover of the century? Maybe. Screams everywhere, no kidding. I think my ears are still ringing.
The presentation was, oh I dunno, two hours long? Felt like both a blink and eternity. You get all these sneak peeks—Chocobos bouncing around, bits of Final Fantasy worlds turned into these stunning land cards. It was pretty wild. Like, whoever thought of this probably had too much coffee or something.
Anyway, back in February, they teased us with some cards from this set. But here, they go deeper. It’s kinda like when you find an unexpected $20 in your pocket. You’re seeing not only how these things look, but how they’ll wreak havoc on the tabletop.
And then, bam! Yoshitaka Amano’s name pops up again. Yeah, the guy who brought Kefka to life? He’s done it again with some brand-new illustrations. It’s as if he’s painting magic itself—my words, not his.
This whole Magic the Gathering – Final Fantasy thing isn’t actually Wizards’ first rodeo. They’ve done tie-ins with Lord of the Rings, Marvel, and even Spongebob. No joke. Well, this Final Fantasy set—it’s supposed to be crazy huge. Hasbro’s CEO, Chris Cocks—yep, that’s his real name—reckons it’s already their best-selling set ever. I mean, it’s like they’re unstoppable despite, you know, the whole economy being a bit of a mess.
And here we are, champing at the bit for it to drop on June 13. Feels like waiting forever for Christmas, right? If you’re itching to get your hands on it, you can pre-order. Not that I’m saying you should. But, you know, maybe you should.
