Oh wow, so there I was, sitting at Summer Game Fest 2025—crowds everywhere, the smell of popcorn in the air, and I’m chatting with Brandon Adler, the big brain behind The Outer Worlds 2. He’s, like, dropping this bombshell: “The sequel? Yeah, guess what, it’s gonna be way more serious than that first one.”
I mean, picture this: Leonard Boyarsky, who, let’s be honest, has this whole moody artist vibe, is steering the ship. So naturally, we’re diving into some darker waters. Adler’s telling me how the story’s got this heavier feel, and I can’t help but get a little excited. Or maybe a lot. Who’s counting?
And Tanner, let’s not forget him, I think he’s off chasing dreams elsewhere, which is fine, but it means Leonard’s left in the driver’s seat. And I guess it’s like, hey, dark tone, come at me.
I’m really into this whole shift. Doesn’t matter if the humor’s less wacky—though, okay, sometimes it was a bit “what even is this?” in the first game. It pulled me right out of the moment, which isn’t ideal when you’re trying to save the galaxy or whatever.
Then there’s all this chatter about dark humor being the secret sauce in gritty games. Think Fallout. It’s all about balance, right? Maybe this new angle will just make those clever dark jokes pop. Or not. Who knows, it’s all a mystery until you play it.
Now, there’s this whole planet called Arcadia—three factions waging war. Each one’s got their own freaky agenda, kind of feels like a messed-up buffet of chaos. I mean, take The Protectorate: super organized, but are they happy? Who’s to say? Or Auntie’s Choice—a bizarre business combo that’s creeping me out just thinking about it. And then, the Order of the Ascendant, where the only thing scarier than their rituals is their math.
Companions, oh boy, they’re back and maybe a bit dodgy this time? Take Aza, who really loves violence (in like, a super worrying way). Marisol’s got assassin creds (yikes), and Tristan, who’s like the angriest knight ever. I can’t wait to dive in and see if I can, you know, change their minds or just join the chaos.
Baldur’s Gate 3 had this depth with characters, and if Outer Worlds 2 pulls that off? Yeah, I’m into it.
Did I mention October? Can’t wait for it. The game’s gonna drop on pretty much everything: PC, Xbox, PlayStation. And Xbox Game Pass on day one. Mark the calendars, folks. I’ll probably be glued to my screen, ignoring everything else. Sorry in advance.
