Alright, so here’s the deal. Been a while since Halo fans got the lowdown on the next big Halo game. Halo Infinite’s already four years old, can you believe it? I can’t. Anyway — wait, what was I saying? Oh, yeah. No one knows if the next one’s gonna be Halo 7 or maybe some jazzy remake of Halo: Combat Evolved. But Phil Spencer, you know the Xbox guru, hinted we’d get a game by 2026. Just let that sink in. “Return of a classic,” he says. Xbox Games Showcase in 2025. Mark your calendar — or don’t. Not gonna tell you what to do.
Moving on, or back… Halo Studios dropped a nugget about this new novel, Halo: Edge of Dawn: A Master Chief Story. Supposedly, it might give us some hints about Halo 7 when it hits the shelves in December.
Picture this: Master Chief, still kicking butt post-Halo Infinite. It’s 2560, the poor guy can’t catch a break. He’s got The Weapon and Fernando Esparza, both probably exhausted too. Bad guys are the Banished forces. Sounds like a zombie flick, but with space and guns. And there’s this medic, Lucas Browning. Dude’s gone through a lot: captive, tortured, probably didn’t get a lunch break.
Bit of a nostalgia trip — or a headache — thinking about this Browning guy. You’d remember him if you scavenged every audio log in Infinite. Caught by the Banished, probably didn’t get a chance to scream, “I’m a medic, not a miracle worker!” before he unleashed the Harbinger. Tortured at Chak ‘Lok’s Tower, and then the House of Reckoning — a name more intimidating than my college dorm.
But hold up. Yes, there’s more. Talks about the surviving Spartan-4 Nina Kovan wanting to rescue him. But the fella’s brain was scrambled with secrets. Yeah, thanks Harbinger. Apparently, Browning knows some deep stuff about Zeta Halo. Maybe that’ll be important? Or trivial. Who knows.
And just when you think you’ve got a handle on this universe — in waltzes the cyborg blademaster Jega ‘Rdomnai. Thought we got rid of him in Infinite? Yeah, well, surprise, surprise. He’s alive and kicking, itching for revenge because Master Chief did away with his pal, the War Chief Escharum. Someone get this guy a stress ball.
Okay, wait, here’s where it gets interesting — or more convoluted. Halo: Edge of Dawn’s tale might spill the beans about Halo 7’s plot and gameplay elements. Remember, I read somewhere that it’s kinda like Halo: First Strike was for Halo 2. Might pepper Halo 7 with cool stuff, y’know? Spartan-4 Tomas Horvath might pop up. And with Browning’s mysterious links to Zeta Halo, it could lead us straight into a clash with Atriox and the Endless. Or not. This franchise is unpredictable.
And don’t even get me started on The Weapon. Will she get a name? Your guess is as good as mine. They’re throwing around the late 2026 release date — when Edge of Dawn could set Halo 7’s metaphorical stage.
Or whatever. Maybe it’s all just a grand stage for an endless cycle of rematches and missions. Feels like life sometimes, right? Anyway, grab the book when it’s out, if you’re curious. Or wait for the internet to spill it all. Your call.
